Music

Everyone is encouraged to participate in music ministry. Music is an important part of the life of Gambrell. Music enhances worship and almost every other important aspect of church life. And music can be a personally fulfilling avenue of service and life-long enjoyment.

We offer music development and training opportunities for all ages. Choir begins with those aged three. Each child is encouraged to take full advantage of the opportunities offered. Our children’s music leaders are remarkably qualified: several have college or graduate music degrees. Our children’s choir program is intended to be among the first steps in a lifetime of music involvement. As children promote into the youth ages, Youth Choir becomes the focus of their ministry through music.

Youth Choir is the primary worship leadership group for Sunday evening worship services. Our youth learn how to lead in worship effectively. Occasionally, they join the Sanctuary Choir for Sunday morning worship leadership. They also work on projects with other choirs such as “YouthCue” and on mission opportunities. When our youth graduate, they have had the opportunity to learn a great deal about music and worship. We hope that they will continue in music ministry for the rest of their lives.

Several choirs and ensembles are available for adults. The most visible choir is Sanctuary Choir who leads Sunday morning worship each week. JOY (Just Older Youth) Choir meets on Monday mornings and is open to all who qualify (and to those who are slightly under qualified) as senior adults. Occasional Chorus is just that – occasional: we meet when the occasion arises. An auditioned Gambrell Octet meets periodically. Other ensembles form for other worship leadership opportunities – Men’s Ensemble, Women’s Ensemble and other small groups.

Two instrumental groups meet regularly. Our Gambrell Chamber Orchestra meets weekly and provides music for Sunday morning services, choral programs and other times. Our Middle School Orchestra meets weekly and works on the various musical skills needed to be effective contributors to corporate worship.

Each music group at Gambrell is intended to provide leadership in worship. And every musical offering in worship is intended to glorify God and to help others to worship God.
